Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) is confident that women’s and men’s national teams have learnt positive lessons despite enduring a poor outing in Zimbabwe. The Malawi Women’s National Netball Team, the Queens, won their first match 54-40 but lost the last two, going down to Zimbabwe’s Gems 46-58 and 47-50 in the other fixtures. However, it was a trip to forget for the Malawi Men’s National Netball Team, the Kings, who lost all their matches to Zimbabwe’s Golden Flyers 62-30 and 51-34. Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) Vice General Secretary Janet Chiumia the matches were ideal as they helped both the Queens and Kings to test their prowess. “Despite the results, the test matches helped both the Queens and Kings to get valuable experience. Both teams tried different combinations and the test matches helped the respective technical panels to identify areas they have to improve in,” she said. Chiumia also thanked the team’s sponsors—Nico Group— and the Ministry of Sports, through Malawi National Council of Sports, for making the trip possible. The Queens travelled with 21 players, including eight who were part of the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar.
