Mystery, intrigue take center stage in ‘The Mousetrap’ at Clague Playhouse

WESTLAKE, Ohio — Agatha Christie’s iconic murder mystery “The Mousetrap” is being staged through Oct. 5 at Clague Playhouse.
Under the direction of Ron Newell, this production brings Christie’s whodunit to the intimate and cozy setting of the playhouse.
With the distinct feeling of walking into a well-kept antique shop, the mood is primed for mystery.
Taking the stage is a cast of eight talented actors, who tell the mysterious tale of five guests who find themselves stranded at Monkswell Manor during a snowstorm in the aftermath of the murder of a local woman.
Playing the part of Sgt. Trotter — the Berkshire detective whose aim is to solve the mystery — is Rowan Myatt-Jones, a newcomer to Clague Playhouse.
He delivers a notable performance that leads the mystery forward and is supported by the entire cast.
Monkswell Manor, a newly opened guest house, is run by Mollie Ralston, played by Erin Williams, alongside her husband, Giles Ralston, performed by James Robert Newton.
The guests of Monkswell Manor include Christopher Wren, played humorously by Cory Knick; Mrs. Boyle, performed by Barb Howitt; Major Metcalf, performed by Jon Fancher; Miss Casewell, performed by Margaret Hnat; and Mr. Paravicini, performed by Assad Khaishgi — who gives a performance with the perfect amount of intrigue that may leave “Three Blind Mice” echoing in your head long after you leave the theater.
The production features performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Adding a special component, the theater will host talk-back sessions with the director and cast on Sept. 21 and Sept. 27, giving audiences the opportunity to engage directly with the creative team about their interpretation of this classic mystery.
Now starting its 98th season and celebrating 58 years in its current facilities, Clague Playhouse continues to offer high-quality, live theatrical entertainment that exceeds expectations.
The intimate venue provides an ideal setting for Christie’s psychological thriller, where tensions and fears escalate, culminating in a brilliant surprise finish.
