New Delhi: A 20-year-old college student in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar was left with severe burn injuries after she was allegedly attacked with acid by her stalker and his friends near Laxmi Bai College on Sunday morning. The victim, a second-year student, was on her way to weekend classes when the accused trio ambushed her, one of them throwing acid from a bottle, leaving her hands and stomach burnt. “I Knew Something Was Wrong When They Pulled Out a Bottle” Speaking to Times Now, the young woman said she had been living in fear for weeks as the accused, identified as Jitender, continued to stalk her in the Mukundpur neighbourhood where both reside. “I had been staying indoors out of fear. I even complained to Jitender’s wife about his repeated harassment, but instead of helping, she accused me of having bad character,” she recounted. On the morning of the attack, she said, “I knew something was wrong when they suddenly pulled out a bottle. I raised my bag to protect my face, and the acid splashed on my hands, stomach, and bag. My phone was inside, it melted.” Unable to use her phone, she screamed for help. “An elderly man stopped and took me on his scooter to the police station. From there, the police rushed me to the hospital,” she said, adding that doctors have told her it may take at least a week before the cast on her hands can be removed. Brother Says Stalker Harassed Her for a Year Her brother told Times Now that Jitender had been harassing his sister for nearly a year. “He lives a lane away from our house. A month ago, my sister had gone to his wife to complain, but instead, the wife turned hostile towards her. For a while, both of them were quiet, and suddenly they attacked her with acid,” he said. He added that his sister’s college premises had always been safe and that she would often travel alone or with friends. “We don’t know the other two involved. We just want justice. So far, no one has been arrested,” he said. Political Outrage: NSUI Slams BJP Over Women’s Safety The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) condemned the attack, calling it a “shocking reflection of lawlessness in Delhi.” NSUI president Varun Choudhary said, “An acid attack on a DU student in broad daylight is a shocking reflection of lawlessness in Delhi. Both Delhi Police and the government are sleeping. If the BJP truly prioritised women’s safety, such horrific incidents would not continue to happen.” He added that the NSUI stands with the victim and her family, vowing to continue raising its voice until justice is delivered. “Delhi cannot become a city where students live in fear. Women deserve dignity, safety, and freedom — not violence and negligence,” he said. No Arrests Yet; Police Probing Contradictory Claims Police sources informed that no arrests have been made so far as several angles are being investigated. Preliminary findings suggest that Jitender’s phone location at the time of the attack did not match the crime scene. Investigators are also probing a fresh twist, two days before the acid attack, Jitender’s wife had lodged a complaint at Bhalswa police station, accusing the victim’s father, Aqeel, of possessing her obscene photos and blackmailing her. Following the attack, she filed a fresh complaint of rape against Aqeel, alleging that he had sent those photos to her husband. Police confirmed that an FIR is likely to be filed in the matter soon. Meanwhile, Jitender’s family has claimed he had “no knowledge of the attack,” but police have questioned them as part of the ongoing probe.
