Ryan, who was in his 20s, was found unresponsive on McGee Terrace at around 3:15am on Sunday morning. He was taken to Naas General Hospital with serious head injuries but later passed away. Following a post-mortem examination – the results of which will not be released for operational reasons – gardaí have now commenced a murder investigation. It’s understood Gibbons had been out socialising with a group of men earlier that night, and that an incident took place close to the local garda station at McGee Terrace. Advertisement The area was sealed off this morning for forensic examination by gardaí.Rolling News Rolling News Local councillor and Kildare-Newbridge mayor Noel Heavey told The Journal that people in the area are “horrified” after the incident. “People are understandably very upset about it, he was only a young man,” Heavey said. Heavey was one of many people to visit Kildare town to pay tribute today. A number of Ryan’s friends have also visited the site of the assault, with some leaving flowers. Close friends of Ryan (Sean McGannon, Sarah Foran and Kayleigh Moran) pictured laying flowers in tribute today.Eamonn Farrell Eamonn Farrell Friends have also been paying tribute to him online, describing him as “one of the nicest lads you would ever meet”. One friend wrote in a post on social media: “Gibby bro you were a one of a kind. Fly high brother. Rest in peace.” Gardaí have appealed for witnesses of the assault to come forward. Any road users who were in the area between 2am and 4am and who may have video footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make this footage available.
