Amid this monsoon season, malaria cases in Mumbai have crossed over 6,000, while there has been a spike in chikungunya and hepatitis cases as well, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) health report stated on Tuesday (September 16). Meanwhile, in the national capital, the cases have also increased slightly, with 297 Malaria cases reported in 2025 so far. The Public Health Department of BMC issued the Monsoon Diseases Report, detailing the number of cases reported from January to September 15, 2025. Malaria cases: 6,277 (up from 5,182 in the same period last year)Chikungunya cases: 542 (up from 366 in the same period last year)Hepatitis cases: 913 (up from 791 in the same period last year) The dengue cases, on the contrary, have declined compared to the same period in 2024. Not just dengue, leptospirosis, gastroenteritis, and Covid-19 cases have also decreased. The Mumbai civic body has issued a health advisory for citizens and advised people to avoid stagnant water to reduce contamination from mosquito breeding. It has advised people to drink boiled water and avoid eating uncovered street food. Also Read: WHO-Recommended Spatial Repellents Are Effective Against Malaria, Suggests New Study Malaria cases rise in Delhi In the national capital, Delhi, there has been a spike reported in malaria and chikungunya cases, according to the report issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). In comparison to the reports of 2023 and 2024, Delhi has reported 297 cases of malaria in 2025 so far, while last year during this period, 271 cases were reported. Moreover, West Delhi has been a major hotspot for malaria, with 50 cases reported so far. Out of these 50, 33 were reported just last week. Meanwhile, chikungunya cases have also spiked with 46 cases reported till now. Last year, only 33 were reported, and 20 in 2023.
