Mum's life is 'ruined' in hit-and-run incident as police make arrest

A suspect has been arrested after a young woman's life was "ruined" by a hit-and-run driver. Victim Kirsty Pickering has been told it could be up to 18 months before she is fully recovered from her injuries. The 38-year-old suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, cracked ribs, and cuts to her face in the incident in Bredbury, Stockport , last month. Consultants have told her she will require surgery on both of her damaged knees. Kirsty said she parked her van outside her parents' home when the van was hit by another car as Kirsty was getting out of it. Kirsty provides dog walking services in and around Stockport. Her son, Romeo, nine, and her two cocker spaniels, Franki and Fifi, are now being cared for by her parents. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Today Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail pending further investigations. The Manchester Evening News understands that a hire care is alleged to have been involved in the incident. Kirsty told the MEN last week: "I am out of hospital at home, but literally in a hospital bed. I have a nine-year-old son I can't look after, two dogs I can't care for. I need 24-hour care. The only way I can leave the house is by someone taking me out in a wheelchair. "It is horrendous. I just hate it. I want to go back to work, I want my legs back. But the consultants say it will be months. I get very frustrated. I need to get movement back in my knees before they can operate, which will take many weeks. Then, after surgery it will take up to 18 months before I am fully recovered." Kirsty is a self-employed dog walker. She said: "It has ruined my entire life. I have now not got a business. I can't take my son to school, I can't take him to football. I can't cook or clean or use a normal toilet. It is horrific." GMP said: "At around 3.50pm on Monday 6 October, a vehicle parked on the kerb on Stockport Road West was struck by another car as its occupant was attempting to exit. "Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was treated for serious injuries, which were thankfully not life-threatening. The driver did not stay at the scene." The car involved is described as a black Vauxhall hatchback, believed to be a 2020 model onwards. GMP added: "The vehicle will have front nearside wing damage, and would have had a missing nearside wing mirror. As officers continue with their enquiries, they are appealing for the public’s help. This includes anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from around the time." Kirsty said she was left "very sad and very angry" that the driver did not stop. "For someone to drive away and leave me on the road... they're clearly heartless. I need to know who did it, why they did and why they drove away," she said.
