ARVADA, Colo (KDVR) — Multiple vegetation fires along Interstate 70 are under investigation after three broke out in about a 10-minute span on Tuesday night. "At around 7:30 p.m., Arvada Fire responded to a vegetation fire. We ended up responding to two additional outside fires. We have fire investigators that were on scene and are currently investigating," said Arvada Fire Public Information Officer Jillian Moore. Several juniper bushes, which Arvada Fire says are very flammable, were burned outside the StorQuest Self Storage facility along the north I-70 Frontage Road. Two more vegetation fires were reported close by on Dover and Garrison Streets. Arvada Fire says it is very uncommon for several close fires to break out in such a short amount of time, which can stretch their resources thin. Wheat Ridge Police confirmed with FOX31 that the Garrison Street fire is being investigated as suspected arson. It is not known yet if the two other fires were arson or if they are related to each other. Arvada Fire had some tips for homeowners and businesses to protect their structures from unexpected flames. "We always recommend to our residents defensible space, choosing materials that are non-flammable, keeping them in an ignition zone far away, five to ten feet, making sure that we keep the leaves off the ground, limb up our trees, so again, choosing the right vegetation outside your home will potentially save your home," said Moore. There were no reports of injuries in all three fires.
