The Member of Parliament for Salaga South and Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Gender, Children and Social Welfare Committee, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has paid an emotional tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, describing her as “a remarkable woman whose life embodied courage, vision and an unrelenting commitment to the empowerment of women and children.” In a press statement, Hajia Zuwera expressed profound gratitude for the life and legacy of Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, who passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at age 76. Hajia Zuwera urged Ghanaians to honour Nana Konadu’s legacy by continuing her work in advancing gender equality and women’s representation in leadership. “Her legacy must not remain a monument of the past but a living mandate for the future,” the MP said. “As lawmakers, we must accelerate action for gender equality and pass laws that economically empower women while challenging all forms of discrimination.” She expressed condolences to the Rawlings family, particularly Dr Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina and Kimathi, describing their mother as “not only a mother to you but a mother to a nation.” Crying More than the Bereaved: Woman thrown out of Nana Konadu’s house for crying out loudly Hajia Zuwera concluded her tribute with one of Nana Konadu’s most memorable quotes, “Here’s to strong women. Reports indicate that she was unwell before her passing. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, played a significant role in Ghanaian politics and social advocacy. She was widely recognised for her leadership in championing women’s rights and empowering communities across the country.
