Moylan: Final call for 2025 US Service Academy nominations

The deadline to apply for a congressional nomination to the United States Service Academies is 5 p.m. on Oct. 30, Del. James Moylan said. Each year, members of Congress have the privilege of nominating qualified young men and women to attend the nation’s prestigious institutions—the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination and accepts applications directly. “Serving in one of our nation’s military academies is one of the highest honors a young person can pursue,” Moylan added. “Our office looks for well-rounded applicants—young men and women who not only excel academically but also show leadership, discipline, and a genuine desire to serve others.” To be considered for a nomination, students must submit a complete application in hard copy to Moylan’s office at 330 Hernan Cortez Avenue, Suite 300 Hagåtña, Guam 96910, by the Oct. 30 deadline. Eligibility requirements To apply for a nomination, candidates must meet the following basic eligibility requirements: Be at least 17 years old but have not passed their 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year of admission.Be a United States citizen and a resident of Guam. Not be married, pregnant, or have any legal obligations to support children or other dependents.Meet the medical, physical, and academic standards set by the individual service academies. Application packets must include: Current photo, high school transcript, ACT or SAT scores, resume, essay (500 words or less) explaining why the applicant wishes to attend a service academy, minimum of three letters of recommendation. ”These academies offer an incredible opportunity for students to receive a world-class education while training to serve our nation as commissioned officers,” Moylan added. “Our students have the heart, talent, and discipline needed to excel, and I encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity and apply.”
