Elliot Watt feels he is in the form of his life as he aims to fire Motherwell into the Premier Sports Cup final tomorrow night. The 25-year-old grabbed the clinching goal in a 2-0 Premiership win over Dundee United on Wednesday night to send the Steelmen into the crunch clash with St Mirren in fine form. Motherwell have recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season heading into the televised tie and the former Salford City midfielder says he is hitting form at the right time. And Watt, who netted his first goal for the club with a stunning finish from outside the box, said: "In terms of my performance levels and how happy I am on the pitch and off the pitch - my family are loving life - then it's absolutely the best spell of my career. "I had a really good time at Salford City a few years ago, where I got a lot of individual awards. "But I think if you were to compare me as a player then to now, I think I am a ten times better player now than I was back then. "I have a lot more to my game in terms of physicality and robustness that goes with it. "And in terms of my life, I am in a really good place on and off the pitch. "I can only give a lot of thanks to the staff and the players in the dressing room because they have helped me settle in really easily and I am enjoying my football. "I think it's important when a manager has a style - whatever that may be - that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet and buying into it. "And from the first day I arrived, I got that feeling that everyone wanted this to be successful and everyone believed in the manager and his ideas. "I have been in a few dressing rooms throughout the years where that hasn't maybe been the case. "Maybe not everyone was buying into it and lads who were getting left out of squads made it turn toxic because they were not getting game time. "But here, not for a minute has there been any kind of negativity. "Even when results maybe have not gone our way, everyone has been really positive and we need that until the end of the season if we want to achieve what we want to achieve." He added: "For me, it was nice to score my first goal for the club on Wednesday. "The bigger picture of course was to win back to back games and follow up a performance at Livingston that wasn't so great. "I'm not sure where I pulled the goal out from! But it was a huge goal at an important time in the game." Recent meetings between Motherwell and the Buddies have been extremely tight. The sides drew 0-0 in the Premiership as recently as August, while last season's three league meetinsg were all close affairs. In March this year they drew 2-2 at Fir Park, Motherwell ran out 1-0 winners in Paisley last December and 2-1 victors in ML1 in September 2024. And Watt expects another close battle. He said: "We are up against a really physical side who have been in the top six for the past few seasons. "But we will go into it full of confidence and I am sure they will be feeling the same, so it should be a really good game. "But we know it will be tough. If we perform to our levels, then we could potentially get a result."
