Motherwell Monday Club nets £10,000 from National Lottery Community Fund

The long-established Monday Club in Muirhouse is celebrating a major funding boost after being awarded £10,635 from the National Lottery Community Fund. The cheque was formally presented by Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson during a joyful afternoon of line dancing, raffles, and community spirit. The grant will support the club’s activities over the next two years, helping to ensure its continued success in providing a welcoming, social space for older residents in the area. Club secretary Susan Gierthy expressed her gratitude for the funding. She said: “This grant will make a real difference to the lives of our members. We’re proud of the welcoming space we’ve built together over the years, and we’re committed to using this funding wisely to continue supporting the health, wellbeing, and happiness of our senior community.” Founded over 40 years ago, the Monday Club currently operates out of St Brendan’s Parish Hall on Muirhouse Road, meeting weekly on Mondays from 2pm to 4pm. The club has 24 active members who regularly enjoy tea and coffee, live music and dancing, sing-alongs, raffles and bingo but more importantly a friendly conversation and social connection. MSP Clare Adamson, who presented the cheque, added: “It was a pleasure to visit the Monday Club and see first-hand the positive impact it has on older people in Muirhouse. “This funding is richly deserved, and I have no doubt it will go a long way in supporting the club’s brilliant work. “The Monday Club is a shining example of the kind of grassroots community group that benefits from National Lottery supports, creating meaningful opportunities for connection, wellbeing, and joy among older adults in North Lanarkshire and would encourage everyone to get involved.” *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
