'Most MBAs are outdated, learn how to build Products': Anupam Mittal

“Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal has questioned the value of traditional MBAs, calling them outdated and overrated compared to hands-on experience in building real-world products. Anupam Mittal claims most MBAs are outdated Advertisment In a recent LinkedIn post, he urged students to skip business school unless it”s a top-tier program. He suggested learning by doing. “Should you do an MBA?” he asked. And then expressed his views: “Most MBAs are outdated”. He advised students and young professionals to learn how to build products. “Best training ground if you want to accelerate your career or run a company one day,” Mittal said. The entrepreneur, who holds an MBA himself, said his initial job as a product manager shaped his ability to build companies far more than his degree. “Case studies and frameworks are nice, but they don”t teach you how to,” the Shaadi.com founder reasoned. Mittal listed real product roles from PMs to robotics and AI engineers as the best training grounds for anyone wanting to run a business, accelerate a career, or lead in the 21st century. “The builder”s life is messy, political, creative, analytical — all at once,” he wrote. “It”s a microcosm of real life, not classroom fluff.” He further remarked that being a builder forces you to synthesise data, tell compelling stories, and “play long games”, the traits he credits for his entrepreneurial success. Anupam Mittal”s closing advice: “If you MUST do an MBA, pick a Tier 1 school, or better, hide for a few months and learn how to build, especially with AI.” Netizens respond “I want to be an entrepreneur like you and see you as an inspiration,” wrote a young user. “Jobs and Musk questioned the value of MBAs for building products, yet they still hire them to run strategy and operations. Anupam Mittal , I”m curious — do your companies do the same, or do you mainly rely on builders for leadership roles?” asked another user to which Mittal replied, “We don”t look for MBAs specifically but if you are one, we try not to hold it against you,” followed by a laughing emoji. “You have touched a topic very close to my heart and I totally resonate with your thoughts,” commented another person.
