‘Most hated man’ wanted by police, council

Richard Pusey, 47, was due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of failing to comply with a building order brought by the City of Melbourne.

But the notorious former mortgage broker did not attend, with the court being told city officers had been unable to locate her to serve paperwork.

In the years since the filming of the crash, Pusey has changed pronouns, first to they/them and, in 2024, to she/her.

A lawyer acting for the City of Melbourne said the case had been to court three times without Pusey’s appearance and the property was listed “in the care of an accounting firm” who held power of attorney.

The lawyer requested Magistrate Jillian Prior approve a substituted service of the full brief of evidence and an injunction on Pusey’s accountant.

“Counsel has now exhausted its attempts to find an address for service (for Pusey),” she said.

This was granted by Ms Prior, with the case adjourned until late October to allow officers to serve the paperwork.

Pusey shot to infamy after recording an expletive-laden video of four Victoria Police officers dead or dying after a horror truck crash more than five years ago.

She had been pulled over for speeding on March 21, 2020, and was urinating on the side of the road when truck driver Mohinder Singh fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the stopped cars.

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, First Constable Glen Humphris and Constable Josh Prestney were killed while Pusey was uninjured.

In the recording, Pusey complained about her Porsche being destroyed while passers-by frantically tried to save the officers.

“That is f–king justice, absolutely amazing. That is f–king amazing,” she said.

In the intervening years, Pusey has changed pronouns, first requesting to be addressed as they/them and, in 2024, requesting to be addressed as she/her.

She was jailed for 10 months in 2021 on charges of reckless conduct endangering serious injury and outraging public decency following the crash by Judge Trevor Wraight.

“In my view, your conduct in recording the police officers in their dying moments together with the words you used as you were recording, was not only ‘derogatory and horrible’ as you describe in your record of interview, but was also callous and reprehensible conduct,” he said.

During one hearing, Judge Wraight acknowledged the press coverage of the case and the public reaction and condemnation of Pusey’s actions.

“They have demonised him to the point where he is probably the most hated man in Australia,” Judge Wraight told the court.

In November 2021, Pusey attached photos of the dying police officers to a complaint sent to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and was sentenced to a further 10 months after a magistrate found her guilty of using a carriage service to cause offence.

Pusey has been wanted by Victoria Police since November 2, 2023, in relation to two alleged breaches of court orders.

At the time, police said Pusey, who is known to travel around Victoria on public transport, was “known to make changes to his appearance”.

“Investigators have released two images of Pusey in the hope someone may be able to provide information on his current whereabouts,” a statement read.

On Wednesday, a Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed the warrants remain active.

The case will return to court on October 28.

An application by media outlets to access court documents for Pusey was rejected by Ms Prior, who said it would be unfair to the accused person given she had not yet seen them herself.
