Moses Ripai to contest PBDS presidency as party eyes new leadership at Sibu TDC

KUCHING, Sept 17: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) acting president Major (R) Moses Ripai has confirmed he will contest the unfilled presidency during the party’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) tomorrow, a key event aimed at electing a full slate of leaders to guide PBDS into the future.

Moses, who stepped in as acting president following Bobby William’s resignation in April 2023, emphasised that the TDC is the party’s formal mechanism to identify leaders for all contested positions, ensuring a fully operational Supreme Council.

“As I am vying for the presidency, the position of deputy president is likewise vacant,” he said in a statement today.

Other leadership posts up for grabs include three vice presidents, the chairpersons of the Women’s and Youth Movements, and 15 Supreme Council members.

“Additionally, three newly created positions namely deputy secretary general, deputy information chief, and deputy treasurer general will also be contested,” he added.

Moses emphasised PBDS’ commitment to democratic principles, offering all members equal opportunities to nominate and elect their representatives.

“PBDS will engage in this electoral process every three years. This presents a pivotal opportunity for the party to evolve and adapt over time,” he said.

The party has seen significant recent changes, including the sudden resignation of secretary general Kipli Ayom and the removal of eight Supreme Council members: deputy president Sai Malaka, vice presidents Emelia Ambrose and Sawing Kedit, youth chief Robert Saweng, women chief Susan George, and members Entusa Iman, Tonny Sepawi, and Ismail Lumut.

Moses, formerly the deputy president, has been steering the party in the interim.

Tomorrow’s conference in Sibu marks what Moses described as “a new beginning for PBDS”, setting the stage for a revitalised leadership line-up to steer the party towards achieving its goals. — DayakDaily
