Morrisons customers will see a major change being made across the stores next year, after the supermarket announced a roll-out of a major new aisle change. The supermarket revealed it will be rolling out electronic shelf labels (ESLs) across all its stores in a bid to deliver an "enhanced shopping experience" for customers. ESLs are digital displays which replace traditional paper price tags in supermarkets and provide accurate price and product information. The supermarket has also added that their new ESLs will instantly communicate Morrisons More Card savings and offers to customers as they shop at shelves. Rolling out the new technology from early 2026, Morrisons says it will be the first large UK supermarket group to adopt ESLs across all its supermarkets. Join our Family WhatsApp group HERE Gordon Macpherson, Group Productivity Director of Morrisons, said: "As digital innovation reshapes the retail landscape we’re constantly evaluating new technology that can help us serve customers better. We’re excited to be the first large supermarket group in the UK to introduce digital shelf edge labelling across our entire supermarket estate and look forward to rolling out the technology in 2026. "This latest investment further underlines our commitment to modernising and digitising our business to deliver an enhanced shopping experience for Morrisons customers." As part of the move Morrisons have partnered with VusionGroup, who aid in digitalising physical stores and have also helped the supermarket in rolling out shelf-edge cameras and AI powered shopping trolleys. Roy Horgan, CEO UK & Ireland at VusionGroup, said: "This agreement with Morrisons is a powerful example of how VusionGroup is executing on its 2027 strategic plan. "We are building a platform for transformation - one that not only delivers immediate value but also evolves with our clients’ needs. Morrisons is a trusted and innovative retailer, and we are proud to support their transformation journey." While Morrisons will be the first large UK supermarket group to introduce ESLs, other major supermarkets have revealed plans to introduce the technology across their stores. Last month Asda announced it will be launching ESLs across its smaller Express stores after the new labels were trialled at its Manchester Oxford Road store over a three month period. Earlier in the year, Sainsbury's also revealed they would be trialling ESLs across a small number of its stores in an attempt to modernise and improve operational efficiency. Morrisons announced the roll out across their stores would take place from early next year, with the project also including an upgrade of the supermarket's in-store WiFi infrastructure.
