Morrisons and Sainsbury's product recalls including 'toxic' item fears

It might be wise to have a rummage through your kitchen cupboards and fridge to see if you’ve got any items that have been withdrawn by the Food Standards Agency.

Products can be pulled from shelves for various reasons, including contamination with harmful bacteria such as listeria or salmonella which could cause food poisoning.

Additional causes include production errors, such as fragments of plastic or metal being discovered in the item.

Missing or inaccurate allergen details can also trigger an allergen withdrawal.

Food companies have the responsibility to withdraw items that pose safety risks, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Food Standards Agency collaborates closely with local councils and the food sector to issue consumer warnings when food items are withdrawn.

This week items have been pulled from retail giants Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx outlets.

Shoppers are typically advised to take items back to shops and obtain a complete refund.

Consumers are cautioned against consuming or using withdrawn items, for safety purposes.

The most recent product withdrawals and what you need to do if you own a recalled item are listed below:.

Sainsbury’s

This item was withdrawn by Sainsbury’s from its Habitat homeware section. The Habitat Seed Pod Bowl Filler has been removed from shop floors by the retail giant.

Sainsbury’s is withdrawing the item as it could be “toxic” to people and pets if consumed.

Product name: Habitat Seed Pod Bowl Filler.

Product code: 146383921.

Product description: Ornamental seed pods The supermarket explains on its website: “If you have purchased, please bag and return to store for a full refund. Please do not dispose of in compost heaps, food or garden waste bins.

“We take the quality and safety of our products extremely seriously and would like to apologise to customers affected for any inconvenience this may cause. No other Habitat home products are affected by this recall.”

Sainsbury’s is withdrawing the product because the seeds contained within the pods are poisonous to both humans and animals if consumed. The exterior casing of the seed pod remains safe to touch.

The item fails to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

TK Maxx and Homesense
