Northern Lights forecast: Best time to view celestial show in Michigan today The Aurora Borealis put on an impressive showing Tuesday night, and there’s potential for it to dance in the sky again Wednesday. kP indices peaked near 9 p.m. on Nov. 11, allowing for the Northern Lights to be viewable as far south as Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Cloud cover across Metro Detroit hindered some viewing on Tuesday. However, Space Weather Prediction Center forecasters believe that Earth was and is being impacted by the first two of three anticipated CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) arrivals. That means that the final and most energetic CME has yet to arrive and may still be on track for a midday arrival today, which could lead to another viewing chance tonight. Read more here. Weather: Slightly warmer in Metro Detroit with chance of isolated showers Cool, but not as cold this morning and for the rest of the day thanks to southerly winds and a blanket of cloud cover overnight. There will be a chance for some isolated rain showers today, mainly north of I-69 into the Thumb. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 40s. We remain cloudy and breezy with gusts around 30 mph, which means wind chills will likely not exceed 40 degrees today. We will trend drier and warmer through the rest of the week. We flirt with 60 this weekend and rain chances increase late Saturday, but drier and windier on Sunday.
