Thirty years after the debut of Pixar’s “Toy Story,” the studio has released the first teaser trailer for the animated franchise’s fifth movie. Titled “Toy Story 5″ the movie will hit theaters on June 19, 2026, seven years after the latest movie in the franchise premiered in 2019. The first “Toy Story” film was released in 1995, with the second and third films debuting in 1999 and 2010. In the newest movie, Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys will have to navigate a world in which kids are infatuated by electronics, and 8-year-old Bonnie gets a new device. What we know about ‘Toy Story 5′ The teaser features the first released footage of the movie, introducing a new character: Lilypad, a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee “that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime,” per a synopsis. “Hi, there — I’m Lilypad,” the new device says in the trailer. “Let’s play!” The teaser shows the toys appearing to be frightened by the new tablet. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return in the new movie to voice Woody and Buzz, respectively, along with Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog and Tony Hale as Forky, per Variety. Conan O’Brien will join the franchise as a new character. Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote the other four movies in the franchise, will be directing “Toy Story 5″ and is credited as the sole screenwriter for the movie. He also directed the Pixar films “Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E” and “Finding Dory.” Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris said in a statement, “It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences,” per People. ‘Toy Story’ is Pixar’s longest running franchise When “Toy Story” was released in 1995, it was the first fully-computer animated feature film. The new addition to the franchise will be Pixar’s 31st feature, per The Hollywood Reporter. Along with the five “Toy Story” movies, the franchise also includes the spinoff “Lightyear,” which features Chris Evans as the voice of the human who inspired the toy Buzz Lightyear. The spinoff was released in 2022. Pixar’s most recent release was “Elio,” which premiered this summer and put out disappointing numbers at the box office. One of the studio’s most recent sequels, “Inside Out 2,″ was a smash hit at the box office and the highest grossing movie of 2024. Both “Toy Story 3″ and “Toy Story 4″ grossed over $1 billion at the global box office and received Academy Awards for best animated feature, per Variety.
