Doha, September 18 (QNA) – The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in collaboration with its partners, is organizing the 11th Qatar Patient Safety Week (QPSW) from Sep. 17-23 under the theme “360° Quality Care: Advancing Safety Through Systemic Change.”
This theme reflects the importance of evolving quality and patient safety initiatives from isolated efforts into a comprehensive transformation across the healthcare system. It highlights the crucial need to adopt a holistic approach to improving healthcare quality and patient safety.
The 11th QPSW aims to engage healthcare leaders in driving systemic change by strengthening their commitment to embedding a culture of safety. This involves integrating quality and patient safety priorities into national strategies, policies, and institutional governance. It also focuses on fostering communication and awareness by promoting transparency, sharing experiences, and raising awareness across all levels of the healthcare system, from leaders and care providers to patients and their families, to ensure safer care and reduce preventable harm. Additionally, it seeks to share best practices by disseminating evidence-based methods and innovative approaches that enhance performance standards and demonstrate systematic improvements in quality and patient safety at every level of care.
The QPSW also aims to strengthen collaborative partnerships by reinforcing cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as with the wider community, to jointly address challenges in quality and patient safety and to build more resilient healthcare systems. It will also encourage dialogue between patients and care providers, empowering patients and their families to be active partners in quality and safety. This will be achieved through the creation of organised platforms for dialogue, feedback, and participation in care design. Furthermore, it seeks to foster a culture of continuous learning by systematically analysing near misses, adverse events, and successes to guide systematic improvements and reduce risks across the healthcare system.
As part of the 11th QPSW, the MoPH will host a number of important activities and events, most notably a national-level conference from Sep. 20-22, featuring keynote lectures, panel discussions, and workshops led by local, regional, and international speakers and experts. The conference will also include personal stories from patients and healthcare providers shared through presentations and video clips, as well as awareness-raising activities accompanying the event.
The MoPH, together with its partners, is also organizing public awareness campaigns across a number of health centres, academic institutions, shopping malls and on social media platforms. In addition, several prominent landmarks across Qatar were also illuminated in orange on World Patient Safety Day, as a symbol of the commitment to improving the quality of healthcare and patient safety.
Furthermore, the MoPH will organize an awareness event at its main headquarters for ministry employees and visitors. This will include educational presentations, a pledge wall to record staff commitments, a special section for medical check-ups and health advice, and interactive activities to encourage engagement and reflection.
Patient Safety Week is an annual nationwide initiative launched by the MoPH in 2014 through the Healthcare Quality Department. It aims to promote the concept of healthcare quality and patient safety among healthcare professionals of all categories, as well as among service users, while strengthening sustainable collaboration between the Ministry, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure safer healthcare in Qatar.
