Moonilal: Par for the course

Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal has downplayed the recent wave of departures at the National Gas Company of T&T Ltd (NGC), describing the resignations as “par for the course”.

Moonilal made the comment in response to questions from the Express on whether further changes were expected at the company.

In a WhatsApp reply, Moonilal said:

“To my knowledge, no one has been terminated. We have had a slight outbreak of resignations at Heritage (Petroleum Company Ltd) and NGC. But this is par for the course.”

Among the recent departures is Verlier Quan-Vie, who on Monday, resigned as vice-president—Commercial at NGC after more than 20 years of experience in risk management, commercial strategy, and business development across the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors.

Alongside shifts in NGC’s leadership team, its board was also restructured after the United National Congress won the April 28 general election.

In May, Dr Joseph Ishmael Khan resigned as NGC chairman, along with the entire board.

On June 5, NGC stated it had been “duly notified by Corporation Sole of the appointment of Dr Randy Ramadhar Singh as chairman of the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd.”

However, Ramadhar Singh’s tenure was short-lived, as in July, attorney Gerald Ramdeen was officially appointed NGC chairman.

There has been a similar shake-up at Heritage Petroleum. Yesterday marked the final day of Erik Keskula’s tenure as chief executive officer. Other notable leadership changes at Heritage include the appointment of Natalie Aimes-Darmanie as chief legal counsel and Randy Marcano as chief audit executive.

Elsewhere in the State energy sector, National Energy’s president, Vernon Paltoo, last week announced his early retirement, while Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, permanent secretary of the Energy Ministry, was recently transferred to the Sport Ministry.
