This is the moment a gang ploughed vehicles into a Birmingham business twice in a fortnight – before the owners say they received a chilling phone call demanding a huge sum of cash. The owners of the Bab Al Hara group of businesses in Sparkbrook said their café in Grafton Road was targeted first on Saturday, August 30, at around 10pm. They then alleged to have received calls from men demanding £300,000 is paid or their ‘businesses will close in six months’. The café was then hit again in the early hours of Sunday, September 14. CCTV footage has recorded all three ramming incidents, which appear to be an attempt to threaten and menace the family to pay up. The full story on what the family has described as ‘extortion’ and what the police are investigating as ‘blackmail’ can be read here . The video recordings show the Range Rover pulling up outside the café and repeatedly ramming it on August 30. Inside, you see the carnage caused by the incident. The Range Rover then becomes lodged and its occupants leap out, while a man from another car, believed to be a Hyundai, is spotted with a machete warding off onlookers. On the second attack, footage shows a 4×4 believed to be a Land Rover Discovery, ramming into the café. Again, footage from inside captures more devastation caused to the family business. The Land Rover repeatedly reverses into the front of the store and then drives off in the foootage. The pick-up was also caught on camera, using the same method of reversing into the business’s banqueting suite, before the driver there also made a getaway. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating a report of blackmail where threats were made to a person. “We have offered safeguarding advice and support as we investigate. “This follows an incident of aggravated burglary at a café on Grafton Road, Birmingham , which took place on 30 August, shortly after 10pm, when a Range Rover vehicle rammed the front doors of the building. “This caused damage to the front windows as well as the metal shutters.” “A cafe was also targeted on Grafton Road on 14 September, at around 12.50am, when a vehicle forced the shutters open causing damage. “We would appeal for anyone with any information on any of the incidents to please contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/374985/25. “Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
