While Mungkas claim bragging rights over Solomon United
BOTTOM placed Momase FC may have put a dent in the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) finals aspirations of City Strikers FC with an upset 1-0 win on Saturday at Bisini.
A loss was the last thing the Strikers needed with three games in hand, and the fourth spot still hanging in the balance for the Men’s Premier division.
Despite languishing in last place, Momase showed a lot of character and grit to score through Ryan Henry (30’) in the first-half and hold on for the rest of the match for the moral boost win.
PMSA competition coordinator Peter Naps commended Momase for applying themselves to deny the Strikers counter attacks in a fighting finish to the match.
“The Strikers have just made life harder for themselves,”
added Naps.
In the top of the table clash, Mungkas FC replacement Colin Benson scored a late goal with less than two minutes to full-time in their 1-0 win over competition leaders Solomon United FC.
Title holders PS Ruts also continue to grind away with a close 2-1 win over Blue Kumuls to maintain fourth spot.
However, with FC Genesis knocking over University FC 1-0, the race for fourth is still open.
Third placed Murat NCD FC also ensured that they also mean business following their 4-0 dousing over Cloudy Bay FC.
In the Women’s Premier division, University’s Linda Gawi was the star of the afternoon with a four-goal effort in their effortless 6-0 win over Keleiruna Maidens.
Gawi scored two in the first-half within three minutes and the other two in the second-half in a feature performance.
The other goals came from Susan Balewai (10’) and Sonya Embahe (20’) to maintain their second placing. In the other matches, Bismark nailed City Strikers 3-0, FC Genesis beat Border 3-0, Murat NCD and PS Ruts played a frustrating 0-0 draw, while Finance and Kurti Andra won on forfeits.
