Doha, October 30 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), in cooperation with Qatar Youth Hostels and the Friends of the Environment Center of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, organized a series of presentations and discussions at the Friends of the Environment Center headquarters. These sessions were held as part of preparations for the annual "Youth Support" program, aimed at raising environmental awareness among young men and women and introducing them to the scientific and technical principles of breeding and raising the Houbara Bustard, a significant environmental symbol in the State of Qatar. The events, held over two separate days, included presentations and discussions for both young men and women. These sessions covered a variety of topics, including the basic and technical principles of breeding and raising Houbara Bustards in captivity, the importance of preserving biodiversity in nature reserves, sustainable environmental practices, and the role of youth in protecting wildlife. The sessions were presented by Ahmed Al Kuwari, Dr. Sanaa Idrissi, and Emad Al Shanoufi. In this context, Director of the State Protected Areas Office at the MOECC, Mohammed bin Nahar Al Nuaimi affirmed that organizing these events comes within the framework of the Ministry's efforts to enhance environmental awareness and promote a culture of sustainability among young people. He emphasized that introducing the new generation to the fundamental principles of raising and breeding the Houbara bustard is a crucial step in instilling the concept of environmental responsibility and highlighting national efforts in protecting wildlife and preserving biodiversity. Al Nuaimi pointed out that the MOECC, through these programs, seeks to empower young men and women to become familiar with modern scientific methods of bird breeding and environmental conservation, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which places sustainable development at the heart of its objectives. He added that the State Protected Areas Office will continue to organize specialized awareness programs and events to promote community participation in environmental protection and instill the values of preserving natural resources among all segments of society, especially young people. It is worth noting that the Houbara bustard is considered one of the important environmental and cultural symbols in the State of Qatar and the Gulf region in general. It is one of the birds threatened with extinction globally as a result of overhunting and loss of natural habitats. The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, pays great attention to programs for breeding Houbara bustards in captivity and releasing them into nature reserves, in support of national, regional and international efforts aimed at protecting biodiversity and the sustainability of wildlife.
