Mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GHC351.6 billion in August 2025, a slight dip from GHC355.4 billion in July, but still underscoring the sector’s firm hold on the country’s financial ecosystem.
Data shows that the number of transactions climbed to 831 million in August, up from 778 million in July, reflecting the continued surge in digital payment adoption. Registered mobile money accounts rose to 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active accounts, marking further progress in financial inclusion nationwide.
Industry analysts noted that while the overall value of transactions eased marginally, the steady growth in transaction volumes and active users highlights growing public confidence in mobile money for daily payments, remittances, and business operations.
Mobile money interoperability also strengthened, with cross-network transfers hitting GHC4.9 billion in August, supported by 26.4 million transactions.
Despite pressures from currency volatility and broader economic challenges, experts say the sustained momentum of digital payments demonstrates the resilience of Ghana’s payment systems and cements mobile money’s role as a cornerstone of the financial sector.
