MLB Announces Major Mookie Betts News Ahead of World Series Game 3

Major League Baseball announced that Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts has been given the Roberto Clemente Award for his service to the community. The honor is given to those who show “commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others,” per MLB. Each team nominates a player from their squad who they believe showed these qualities, and a winner is chosen during the World Series. That’s what we care about, is just creating something they can sustain,” Betts said. More news: Dodgers Considering Benching Outfielder for World Series Game 3 Betts has done charity work through his 5050 Foundation, which he founded alongside his wife, Brianna, that helps youth in Los Angeles and Nashville. The charity donated more than $30,000 of Nike clothing to victims of the LA wildfires. They also partnered with the Dodgers Foundation to donate more than $160,000 to Brotherhood Crusade, which helps fight hunger and homelessness. Betts also funded the Mookie Betts Metro Baseball Tournament, which is a youth baseball initiative that supports six AAU teams. “It just means the world,” Betts said. “This isn’t something that you get judged on based on your performance. It’s something that you just do out of the kindness of your heart. Just caring about people, man. “It’s just opportunities to do something that don’t have anything to do with talent. Those are things that I genuinely care about, and I feel like this reward shows that.” While Betts appreciates honor, he will likely quickly turn his focus over to the World Series, where the Dodgers are tied at one apiece and will look to take the lead in Game 3 on Monday.
