A mechanised boat fisherman who went missing in the high seas on Saturday was rescued by the country boat fishermen of Koothenkuzhi in Tirunelveli district on Monday.

Fisherman P. Sivamurugan, 35, of Chettikulam near Koodankulam ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat operating from Chinna Muttom Fishing Harbour near Kanniyaumari on Saturday, and accidentally fell into the sea while fishing 25 nautical miles away from Kanniyakumari coast.

Even though other fishermen in the boat tried to save him, the rough sea thwarted their attempts. On getting information, Coalchel Marine Police launched a search for Mr. Sivamurugan, but in vain.

When a group of fishermen from Koothenkuzhi, led by Arulappan, went for fishing in their fibreglass boat in the early hours of Monday, they spotted Mr. Sivamurugan floating with the help of the floats in the fishnet.

They rescued him and brought him to Chettikulam to hand over him to his family members on Monday morning.
