The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received the World Bank’s global director, Luis Felipe Lopez-Calva, in Namangan today, on September 17, the Presidential press service reported.
At the beginning of the meeting, the high-ranking guest conveyed greetings and best wishes from World Bank group president Ajay Banga and congratulated on the successful organization of the international forum ’’From poverty to prosperity.’’
According to the report, the talks focused on further expanding strategic partnership with the World Bank, primarily in the field of poverty reduction, the first goal of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
It was also noted with great satisfaction that practical cooperation with this global financial institution has reached a high level. The national program is being successfully implemented, and Uzbekistan has become one of the Bank’s leading partners in the macro-region. The portfolio of joint projects has exceeded $14 billion.
With the active support of the World Bank, a methodology for measuring poverty levels has been developed. At present, indicators of poverty and inequality in Uzbekistan are being jointly assessed.
Within the framework of implementing the ’’From poverty to prosperity’’ program, a joint project has been proposed. It includes practical measures aimed at creating jobs for women and youth, modernizing the social infrastructure of urban and rural areas, and promoting tourism.
Special attention was also given to advancing private sector projects, developing medium-term development programs, conducting population census activities, and other priority areas.
It is worth noting that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the opening of the international forum ’’From poverty to prosperity’’ in Namangan earlier today, September 17, which brought together representatives of more than 30 prestigious organizations and around 200 international experts. Following the forum, the President held a meeting with Islamic Development Bank President Muhammad bin Sulaiman Al Jasser.
