On October 30, in Samarkand, within the framework of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini, the presidential press service reported. The discussions focused on expanding the strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Slovakia. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of bilateral exchanges at all levels, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in priority areas. ’’This year, political consultations and the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission were successfully held. Business relations have become more active, and the number of joint ventures has tripled,’’ the statement said. The parties discussed increasing trade turnover and investment volumes, as well as expanding industrial cooperation projects in key sectors. It was agreed to boost the supply of textiles, leather, fruits and vegetables, and other popular products from Uzbekistan, while increasing imports of rubber, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial goods from Slovakia. To that end, both sides plan to organize national product exhibitions and open trade houses. Special attention was also given to the development of digitalization. The sides proposed establishing a joint center to oversee cybersecurity monitoring for banks and implement advanced systems for cargo tracking. The Slovak side expressed readiness to further expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in producing automotive components, dairy products, and other industries. The prospects for strengthening humanitarian and educational exchanges were also discussed. The parties proposed holding the first Uzbekistan–Slovakia Rectors’ Forum in Bratislava in 2026, organizing tourism exhibitions, and celebrating mutual Tourism Days. The issue of establishing an orderly labor migration mechanism was also addressed. The two leaders exchanged views on mutual support within multilateral platforms and on key regional and international issues of common interest. It is worth noting that, earlier, at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit. Pellegrini is participating as an honorary guest in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
