Miri police seizes over RM500,000 worth of narcotics, detains two suspects

by DayakDaily Team KUCHING, Oct 27: Miri police cracked down on another drug syndicate operating in the city, leading to the seizure of various narcotics worth an estimated RM509,525. According to a press statement, Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said, on Oct 19, at approximately 8.20pm, a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department raided a rented room in the Riam area, Miri, Sarawak and arrested a 25-year-old local man and a 32-year-old local woman. Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect has a prior criminal record, and both suspects are believed to have been active drug suppliers. Also seized were an estimated 409 grammes of suspected syabu, 1,029 grammes of ketamine, 3,342 grammes of ecstasy, 1,986 grammes of Erimin 5, and 15 millilitres of liquid cannabis. Police also seized RM2,800 in cash and a Perodua Myvi, bringing the total estimated value of confiscated items to over half a million ringgit. “The total amount of drugs seized can be used for 14,131 addicts,” Mohd Farhan said. Police investigations also uncovered the syndicate’s modus operandi, which involved sourcing supplies from other syndicate members. Both suspects have been remanded for seven days, from Oct 20 to 272025. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, the offender can be given no less than 12 strokes of the cane if convicted. “The police hope that the public will continue to provide information regarding drug trafficking activities that occur around them.
