Miranda Cosgrove got some revenge on an ex-boyfriend when starring opposite Pierson Fodé in The Wrong Paris.
“[Pierson is] just, he’s so cute it’s crazy, but I was going through a breakup right before I filmed this movie,” Cosgrove, 32, confessed in a clip from the upcoming Wednesday, September 24, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “And he’s such a nice guy. We’re really close friends now, but he let me post him on my [Instagram] Stories and pretend we were kind of, like, obviously I didn’t say we’re dating. but I posted him. And I know that that really upset my ex.”
Barrymore, 50, praised Cosgrove for her sneaky idea, calling it “cute and fun and a nice way to handle it,” before asking the iCarly star if she could give her “some tips” on getting back at former flames. “Oh definitely,” Cosgrove promised. “You can borrow Pierson if you ever need him!”
In The Wrong Paris, which hit Netflix earlier this month, Cosgrove stars as Dawn, a country girl who gets cast on a reality dating show thinking it’s filmed in Paris, France, only to find out it’s actually in Paris, Texas. Although she sets a plan to get herself eliminated from the contestants, things get complicated when she realizes the bachelor in question (Fodé) is actually the guy she hit it off with on the dance floor a few nights earlier.
When speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Cosgrove said it was “obvious” that Fodé was right for the role from the very jump.
“There was no question,” she told the outlet during the September interview. “It’s funny, because most of the time for me, I’m always the one auditioning … but it made so much more sense to me after having this experience because it’s just so obvious. You’re like, ‘How do they know this person is right for the role?’ And it really was just, like so clear. We just had a connection from the beginning.”
Fodé, for his part, called Cosgrove “so great” and “easy” to work with. “She crushed it the whole movie,” he said.
As for how the pair built their chemistry off screen, Cosgrove said she and Fodé had a chance to spend some time together before filming began.
“[The chemistry] was there from when we first met, but definitely in the first couple weeks we were in Canada getting to horseback ride together,” she shared, adding that one activity bonded them more than the others. “I had to learn how to lasso him,” she said with a laugh. “If you really want to get to know somebody, learn to lasso him.”
Cosgrove didn’t name her ex during her chat with Barrymore on Tuesday, but the actress has often kept her love life out of the spotlight. She has been linked to Noah Centineo, James Maslow and Nat Wolff over the years, with her most recent rumored romance being tennis player Taylor Fritz.
While appearing on Whitney Cummings’ “Good for You” podcast in August 2020, Cosgrove opened up about an ex she dated who “had a kid,” “was married at one point” and would often shush her when they spent time together. (Fritz, 27, famously tried to quiet French Open fans when they booed him at the 2023 tournament.)
When Cummings asked Cosgrove what the mystery guy did for a living, Cosgrove replied, “He played tennis.”
Fodé, meanwhile, previously was linked to Victoria Justice from 2013 to 2015 before rumors swirled he was dating Sharna Burgess in 2017. He began dating Saxon Sharbino, but it’s unclear what their relationship status is today.
