Mira Sorvino’s Daughter Is a Dead Ringer for Her Mom

Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino and her daughter could be twins. The beloved star, 58, who won an Academy Award for her role in Woody Allen‘s 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite, is a fan favorite thanks to roles in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Summer of Sam. She’s married to Christopher Backus, and the duo has four children. Sorvino took to Instagram to wish her daughter, Mattea Backus, a happy birthday, and it’s safe to say the college student bears a striking resemblance to her mother. “Happiest of birthdays to the most wonderful @matteaabackus you fill my heart to bursting with love and pride. You have always flown so high, I am in awe of you up there in the stratosphere, climbing with each shining moment,” Sorvino wrote. “My dear gift from God, you changed my life immeasurably for the better from the first second I held you in my arms, I love you so!!!” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Sorvino Made Her Broadway Debut Back in August, Sorvino announced she would be joining the cast of the hit musical Chicago for a limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City. The star tackled the iconic role of fame-hungry housewife Roxie Hart from September 15 to November 2, 2025. “I have wished to dance and sing in a Broadway musical since I was a small child,” Sorvino said in a statement, PEOPLE reported. “To join Chicago, such a legendary show, and such an incredible cast, past and present, is literally a dream come true!” After her last performance, Sorvino made it sound like her days as Hart might not be over. “Hey it’s my last performance @chicagomusical at 7 pm at the Ambassador Theatre. Come see us and say goodbye… for now!” she captioned an Instagram post. Her Charlie Sheen Story is Absolutely Wild Sorvino recalled Charlie Sheen “asking [her] to marry [him] in the car” back in the ’90s during a “three-day odyssey through the underworld.” In an interview with Page Six to promote her appearance on Broadway, Sorvino recalled the chaos that surrounded Sheen and his rampant drug use at the time. “When I said, ‘Not like this,’ because he was high on crack, he said, ‘OK, can I light up then?’ He had a crack pipe in the car, and I was like, ‘No.’” Sorvino would beg Sheen to get help, but he would “disappear into rooms with people for two hours at a time.” The two were longtime friends and weren’t even romantically involved. But according to Sheen’s recollection, Sorvino even offered to sleep with him to get him straight. “Listen to me, you crazy, beautiful man,” Sheen claimed. “I understand why you don’t wanna go, but you are out of options. … Look at me, Charlie, look at me. I will sleep with you — if you just promise to get yourself to court this morning.” Sorvino said she remembers it a bit differently.
