14 men, including two government employees, were arrested from Kerala’s Kasaragod for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy. As per the police, these men befriended the minor boy on a mobile app for the LGBTQ community.
A senior police official said the boy was sexually assaulted over two years at his home and other places, including in Kannur and Kozhikode districts, by 14 different men.
The incident sent shockwaves through the country and it was unearthed after the mother of the boy saw a man at their house. On seeing her, the man fled.
The incident came to light when the boy’s mother saw a man at their house who fled upon seeing her. When she inquired her son, he revealed the ongoing assaults, and she subsequently informed the police and the child line.
Case Filed Under POCSO
Based on the statement given by the boy, the police filed 14 separate cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The accused are aged between 25 and 51 years and one of them is a Railways employee.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising a DySP and four Inspectors has been constituted and they will be probing the eight cases related to incidents that occurred in Kasaragod district, the officer shared further.
The remaining six cases have been transferred to Kozhikode and Kannur districts, where the boy was allegedly sexually assaulted.
