Ministry Observes World Tourism Day

The Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport marked World Tourism Day by highlighting recent achievements in strengthening Bermuda’s tourism industry and reaffirming its commitment to sustainable growth and opportunity for Bermudians.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport joins the global community in celebrating World Tourism Day on Saturday, September 27, a moment to reflect on the progress made in Bermuda’s tourism sector and to reaffirm the Government’s commitment to its continued growth and sustainability.

“Over the past year, the Ministry has achieved significant milestones in strengthening Bermuda’s position as a premier destination. The Government has advanced a series of initiatives to modernise legislation, support local entrepreneurs, attract new investment and create opportunities for Bermudians in this vital sector of the economy.”

Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport Owen Darrell shared, “Tourism is not only a pillar of Bermuda’s economy but also a reflection of the island’s culture, heritage and unique beauty. Over the past year, the Government has deliberately promoted investment incentives across attractions, restaurants and local operators, ensuring that benefits are accessible not only to large-scale developers but also to home-grown entrepreneurs. This balanced approach is strengthening the foundation of Bermuda’s tourism industry, expanding its offerings and creating meaningful opportunities for Bermudians.

“Among the most significant achievements has been the modernisation of the Tourism Investment Act, which now provides greater flexibility in responding to real-time conditions affecting tourism businesses. Two new Tourism Investment Orders have also been advanced, granting relief to a commercial charter yacht and a new local attraction, highlighting the Government’s commitment to empowering Bermudian entrepreneurs. At the same time, the development of The Loren has set in motion the revitalisation of the long-vacant Elbow Beach site, expanding hotel capacity and creating jobs across demolition, construction and operations. Together, these measures have sustained investor confidence and ensured that Bermuda remains a destination of choice, with projects that enhance visitor experiences while strengthening the local economy.”

“World Tourism Day serves as a reminder that tourism is ultimately about people,” Minister Darrell emphasised. “ It’s about workers, entrepreneurs, communities and the experiences shared with visitors from around the world. A new chapter in Bermuda’s tourism story is being written, one rooted in opportunity, sustainability and pride in the island’s identity.

“On this World Tourism Day, I would like to take the opportunity to thank and salute all the thousands of people working in the tourism and hospitality industry. We are grateful for your service. The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to advancing policies that support Bermudian workers, entrepreneurs and investors, while positioning Bermuda as a world-class tourism destination.”
