The Ministry of Education has contracted a company that specializes in pigeon control, mitigation, and proofing to address a persistent infestation affecting several schools along the East Coast of Demerara. The announcement was made yesterday by Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, during visits to some of the affected schools, beginning with the Beterverwagting (BV) Primary School, which has been among the most severely impacted. According to Parag, the school building will be thoroughly pressure washed and fitted with a specific type of galvanized mesh designed to prevent birds from entering. In addition, a special gel treatment will be applied to the roof to discourage pigeons from perching and nesting.
