Minister underscores role of mgmts in creating safe environment in factories

Labour and Employment Minister Gaddam Vivek Venkatswamy has said the role of managements in creating safe environments in factories has increased manifold after the introduction of Ease of Doing Business norms and the consequential deregulated environment.

The management should aim and plan accordingly for safety in factories to achieve the goal of zero accidents. This was important as the cost of investment in safety was far less than that involved in accidents.

The Minister was speaking at a two-day training of trainers’ programme on occupational safety in chemical and pharmaceutical factories being organised jointly by the Factories Department and the State chapter of National Safety Council.

Mr. Vivek Venkatswamy instructed the Factories Department to take steps to ensure employment of trained workers in hazardous factories saying safety offies played a big role in establishing safe work environment.

Factories director Y. Mohan Babu said accidents in factories could be reduced not only by providing safety provisions but also by imparting proper training to workers. Participants of the workshop could train workers in their factories to achieve safe working environment.
