Minister provides update on Le Squez Youth Centre plans

PLANS for improved youth facilities in St Clement could be progressed “at pace” subject to the approval of funding as part of the government’s proposed Budget, according to the Children’s Minister.

Richard Vibert has provided an update on the anticipated timeline and cost of the redevelopment of the Le Squez Youth Centre.

It follows a previous update earlier in the year in which the Minister said that officers from CYPES, the Jersey Youth Service and Jersey Property Holdings had undertaken “feasibility work on various options”.

Responding to a recent written question from St Clement Deputy Karen Wilson, Mr Vibert said that his officers had completed and submitted an “initial business case”, which had been reflected in the Government’s proposed 2026 to 2029 Budget due to be debated later this year.

“There is an estimate of £4.5m for 2028 and £2.997m for 2029. These are estimated figures to enable the funding for further feasibility studies, building design and submitting a planning application,” he explained.

Mr Vibert said he remained “committed to supporting Le Squez Youth Centre”.

“Once we receive funds, we will progress the project at pace with the design work and will consult with relevant stakeholders such as the Youth Project Committee and also the children and young people that use the facilities at Le Squez Youth Centre,” the Minister stated.

He noted that work would not be able to progress “until the funds are available”.

“It is estimated that building works would take place during 2028 and 2029.”
