GREENVILLE — A local developer plans to build a mini golf course designed around a community coffee and beer shop, all intended to be family friendly. The “minimalistic mini golf course” by developer Parks McLeod would be situated on Mills Avenue next to Mills Mill, about 10 minutes from downtown. It first needs approval for an outdoor entertainment use by the city Board of Zoning Appeals. “The only obstacles are the contours of the greens, and you're not putting into windmills or clown faces,” McLeod said. “So it's very aesthetically pleasing, and it doesn't look like maybe some tourist traps.” McLeod’s goal is to provide an all-day hangout spot, where a customer can come have a coffee and work for a few hours in the morning, or meet a friend after work to play mini golf and have a beer. It’s McLeod’s first project of this type. “Especially Augusta Road, in this Mills (Avenue) corridor, it's kind of lacking a variety of different types of real estate,” McLeod said. “There's a lot of banks and a lot of fast food restaurants.” Enigma Corp., which is registered to Stewart Spinks, founder of the Spinx gas station chain, currently owns the 4-acre property, which is mostly vacant. McLeod said he’s not involved with Spinx and would acquire the property separately.
