Mingo the Flamingo stars in new beach playgrounds

More fun for kids at Villananitos Beach VILLANANITOS BEACH in San Pedro del Pinatar now has two new play areas for children. One is near El Molino (the windmill), the other closer to the marina. Both have a fun nautical theme, with the town’s flamingo mascot, Mingo, taking centre stage. New play areas for children The playgrounds are aimed at kids aged 3 to 12 and each features eight different play elements. They’re designed to be more than just fun, helping children develop motor skills, interact with others, and enjoy themselves in a safe, accessible space. Bright colours, climbing frames, and slides inspired by the sea create an inviting space for families spending the day by the coast. Parents can relax knowing the new play zones meet safety standards and are built with durable, high-quality materials suited to the coastal environment. The area has also been designed with accessibility in mind, making it inclusive for all children. A commitment to family-friendly beaches Mayor Pedro Javier Sánchez and Tourism Councillor Javier Castejón visited the new areas this week. They said the parks are part of ongoing efforts to improve services on the town’s beaches and make them more family-friendly, while also highlighting the unique local landscape and the community’s mascot. The improvements at Villananitos Beach follow other recent upgrades in San Pedro del Pinatar, which continue to enhance its reputation as a welcoming destination for both residents and visitors. By creating spaces where children can play safely while families enjoy the sea views, the town is reinforcing its focus on accessible and inclusive tourism. Supported by the EU’s Next Generation Funds The project cost €27,454.90 and is part of San Pedro del Pinatar’s Tourism Sustainability Plan. It’s funded by the European Union through the Next Generation funds, as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. These EU-backed initiatives aim to strengthen local infrastructure while promoting sustainable, community-focused tourism. With these new spaces, families visiting Villananitos Beach can relax while children play safely, making a day at the beach even more enjoyable and reinforcing San Pedro del Pinatar’s commitment to quality coastal experiences for everyone.
