Millennials Share Top Tips For Staying Young At Heart

Millennials Are Sharing What They Do To “Stay Feeling Young” These Days, And Reading This Has Me Feeling So F—ing Inspired "I discovered this recently, and I'm obsessed." My granny always said, "I may have to get older, but I don't have to get old." She is in her mid-90s now, she lives alone, still drives, is fully mobile, and remains one of the sharpest, funniest people I know. Give it up for Jeanette, everyone! She always made it a point to take care of herself, and it's really paid off. Listen, millennials, we are still technically young, but we're no spring chickens. Now is the time to start creating the habits that will carry us into middle age and beyond, something that Reddit user kermitte777 is well aware of. They recently took to the r/Millennials subreddit, sharing that they've been "feeling pretty old" lately and asked, "What is everyone doing these days to stay feeling young?" I legitimately felt so inspired reading through these responses, and had to share the best ones with you. Here's what people had to say: 1. "I eat incredibly clean, I don’t drink, I listen to a lot of Blink-182, and I wear a backwards hat to keep my hair out of my face. Sup?" 2. "I feel young because I never 'grew up'. I take care of my business like an 'adult', but that's it. I still live the same way I always have — it's fun, so fuck it! I'm going to see Viagra Boys and Haywire shows on back-to-back weekdays next week, just like when I was 18." —u/Guachole 3. "Racquet sports. I discovered tennis recently, and I'm obsessed. A lot of my friends play padel or pickleball, too. It's also a great way to see your friends regularly." —u/Educational_Time5188 4. "I keep discovering new music. It doesn’t have to be new releases, but continually finding music that is new to me makes me so happy to be alive." 5. "Stretching has changed my life. I have a desk job and mainly lifted weights and kept a healthy diet in my 20s and 30s. However, I would get back pains from just bending over to tie my shoes, and I had massive joint pains after my second daughter's birth. I tried out Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu last year, and it's been a game-changer. I also do yoga once a week, and that has really helped me with my back and neck. I tried stretching in the past, but was not consistent. Yoga classes and BJJ really help me stick with a routine. Nowadays, I can roll around the floor and play with my kids with zero pain. I can do forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, shoulder rolls, and a bunch of other movements that I would have thought would be impossible a year ago. I should have absolutely incorporated stretching into my daily routine when I was younger." —u/KevinJay21 6. "I still skateboard. Once you stop, you'll never start again." —u/Robotobot 7. "I make sure to do things I enjoy regularly. I am often out working on my cars, which is something I have done since I was a teenager. Right now, I am building one of the cars I dreamt about when I was 16. I also still have the same car I worked on back then. I regularly drive it and take it to car shows. When I sit in it, it is almost like no time has passed at all." 8. "Getting adequate sleep is underrated AS F. This is a huge one!" —u/UnfairBalance510 9. "I feel like my love of growing things, and subsequently opening a side-gig business doing landscaping for a few people in the area, really helps keep my muscles in good shape. We grow a lot of the food we eat, too, and prioritize organic, less processed food items when we go to the store. We sacrifice a lot of time to cooking and physical activity, but when it comes with benefits like bountiful harvests to the point that I'm a regular at the food bank, the sacrifice is worth it." —u/Common_Advisor8896 10. "I livestream playing video games whenever I have the time." 11. "I eliminated caffeinated and alcoholic beverages from my diet. That's about it, and I stopped feeling like I was 80 years old. My mental and physical health skyrocketed." —u/Sea_Stick9605 12. "Reading and writing. You've gotta keep learning and investing in mental stimulation. I am considering going back for a second master's, but not sure I want more gray hairs." –u/kobeburner 13. "I go on an absolute bender a few times a year at music festivals. I honestly think it’s a good reset to just go all out, out of my mind for a few days. Granted, I need a full two days to recover afterwards, but it helps me feel young while I’m doing it." 14. "A big thing I’ve been doing lately and really enjoying is revisiting some of my favorite things from when I was younger (TV shows, movies, music, books). For example, I’ve been reading Fear Street books, watching The Adventures of Pete & Pete, and listening to Gin Blossoms (among other fave media from my younger years) 😄. And, yes, I am having a midlife crisis 😆 But I think these things are helping." —u/Equal_Question_4594 15. "Losing a shit ton of weight. I lost 115 pounds last year, going from moderately obese to the low 'normal' range. I feel like I’m in college again." —u/Greymeade 16. "I started pole dancing. I'm getting stronger and regularly get my spine moving. Also, the first time I lifted my weight, I felt my entire—and I mean my entire—spine decompress. It's literally keeping me young." 17. "I skip when I am supposed to run. I take roads I haven't gone down if I have the time to get a little lost. I play video games both at home and at arcades. I wall climb and go scuba diving. I want to experience my body moving as long as it can. It will fail me eventually, I just don't know when." —u/Cassandra-s-truths 18. "Any kind of partner dancing. Swing dancing makes me feel young because the style is just so carefree to me. Ballroom dancing makes me feel young because in ballroom dancing, 40 IS young. It's honestly the perfect hobby — it's exercise, it's social, it's using your brain because you are learning new steps, and you're listening to music." —u/listenyall 19. "I hike often. Running is difficult when you have a surgically repaired Achilles, but hiking has boosted my mental health a lot. So has my new dog. He forces me to get out there." 20. "Infrared sauna, red light therapy, and the occasional SkinPen microneedling don’t hurt." —u/Friendly_Bee3792 21. "I started mountain biking at 40. I'm 43 now and haven't died yet. Unless I fall, my knees don't randomly hurt anymore when I wake up or when I'm just walking around. My resting heart rate is down, cardio's up, and blood pressure is down. I appreciate life when I'm outdoors three times a week. I even head out once a week with my teenage son, who got a bike too." —u/Breakr007 22. "I hang out with actual old people (my parents live in a retirement home) and socialize with friends several days per week." 23. And finally, "I try to be silly. Make a joke, laugh at goofy-looking bugs, make my hair into weird hairdos on hair wash day, etc. Just little things to keep the smile on my face. I don’t mind the smile lines. It means I was happy — a lot." —u/derpling0719 What do you do to keep feeling young? Let me know in the comments or in the anonymous Google Form below!
