Rangers were left smarting after suffering more than just a blow to the head at Hampden last week. And another defeat to Roma was the latest Europa League boot to the haw-maws. But in the Premiership, Danny Rohl 's appointment is proving to be the kick up the backside this stuttering Ibrox outfit needed. It’s now three wins on the spin for a team that managed just one during Russell Martin’s calamitous reign. It won’t be enough to have second-placed Celtic sweating just yet, never mind Derek McInnes’ table-topping Hearts. But the fans who have taken so quickly to their new gaffer will believe at last a corner has been turned domestically. Jack Butland - back in the headlines ahead of the game after lashing out at the decision not to send off Auston Trusty for his head kick in Sunday's Premier Sports Cup loss to Celtic - was forced into an early save from Ethan Hamilton’s stinging free-kick. But two goals in five minutes handed the visitors a lead they’d hold all the way to the end. First Nicolas Raskin slipped his sleeping marker Billy Koumetio to nod home from James Tavernier’s ninth-minute corner. And that was quickly followed by Mikey Moore’s first Gers goal as he slammed home when Mohamed Diomande’s pass to Danilo broke off Ryan Astley and into the Spurs kid’s path. But Rangers allowed the game to grow scrappy after seeing VAR chalk off another Moore strike. Rohl wasn’t hanging about at half-time and was out early to help prep substitutes Youssef Chermiti, Thelo Aasgaard and Connor Barron for the second half. The changes didn’t do much for the fluency levels in the Gers ranks but Dundee needed three superb saves from McCracken to keep the score down before Djeidi Gassama swept home in stoppage time. Tottenham kid Moore insisted this week he has no regrets over his Ibrox switch despite a torrid start to his season-long loan. The England Under-19 ace struggled early on to replicate the dazzling displays he produced after bursting onto the scene with last season’s Europa League winners. But Rohl’s arrival and a shift into a more central position has helped eek more and more out of the 18-year-old. His first strike was a precise long-range drive and illustrated why Martin was so keen to bring him north. With his team still short on creativity, Rohl is going to need Moore to keep it up. The travelling Gers faithful jazzed up their Danny Rohl chant with a new line about the boss getting their team playing electric and hating Celtic. And the German succeeded in adding a fresh flourish to his side’s stale attacking set-up, at least early on. Rohl has stabilised his new side’s results in the league by switching to a three-man backline. But the tactical tweak left Gers short on bodies and width at the top end of the pitch, a glaring factor in Thursday’s limp loss to Roma. A return to a back four was designed to solve that issue and it worked a treat with runners constantly darting in and out of the gaps in between the Dees midfield and defence. It was that lively movement which brought Moore’s goal as Dundee failed to track the teenager. But Rohl will be worried by the second-half drop off that saw Gers’ spark peter out. The triple change he made at the break was supposed to provide a fresh zip but all it did was was disrupt a decent display. Chermiti has had his chance to impress up front but the sums behind the striker’s £8million switch remain as controversial as the tax rises chancellor Rachel Reeves is about to impose on the nation. At an initial £2.5m, Bojan Miovski’s signing was nowhere near as steep but the former Aberdeen ace has been also struggling to show signs he’ll provide a return on that fee. He’s now 17 games into his Ibrox career but most fans would have expected him to have bagged more than the two he’s managed so far. But while you could say he’s not exactly been spoiled with an abundance of service since returning to Scotland from Girona, he’s not helped himself either with some sloppy hold up play. There was another couple of examples of that at Dens and it was no surprise to see him hooked at half-time as Rohl opted to give Chermiti another go. It’s around this time of year that the January rumours start kicking up a gear and Gers have already been linked this week with Genk’s Spanish centre-back Mujaid Sadick. Rohl revealed this week he was waiting to carry out an assessment of the men already on the books before sitting down with Kevin Thelwell to draw up a shopping list for the winter window. The thought of the club’s under-fire sporting director taking charge of another recruitment drive after this summer disastrous spree will be enough to bring the club’s supporters out in a cold sweat. But there’s no doubt this team still needs serious upgrades, with a commanding centre-back, experienced left-back and a proven centre-forward the most glaring of Rohl’s requirements. Steven Pressley’s side have proven to be a thorn in the sides of both Old Firm teams this term. A side that were tipped as relegation favourites very nearly came away from Ibrox with a win back in August. That 2-2 draw was harsh on the Dark Blues but no-one could argue with their sensational home win over Celtic last month - the club’s first Dens defeat of the Hoops since 1988. But that historic win is fading from memory fast for the irate Dee faithful, who have now seen their second-bottom side lose five of their last six games. It’s still tight at the foot of the table but Pressley will be worried about the lack of fight he’s seeing from a team who have taken just one point from losing positions all season.
