The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils are off to a 2-0 start to the 2025 college basketball season. While head coach Jon Scheyer still has some returning pieces from last season’s Final Four team, which was headlined by freshman sensation and 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, the Blue Devils have quickly shifted the spotlight to the next wave of talented freshmen. On Monday, during an appearance on CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein podcast, legendary former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski singled out the Blue Devils’ clear best player this season: five-star freshman Cameron Boozer, who has already been spectacular through two games. “It’s different than last year, which it should be. I think we’re gonna be really good. Cam is our best player,” Krzyzewski said. “He’s way ahead of his age. He has the body of a man. As big as he is, he has great feet… and he understands the game. He’s really an intelligent player. “I haven’t seen all the players in college basketball yet, but he has to be as unique as anyone, and we’ll see if he’s better than everyone. But he’s right there,” Kryzewski added. “He rebounds like crazy, he’s a double-double guy, and he can really pass too. When Krzyzewski speaks, people listen—and he has consistently praised Duke’s freshman classes. Last year’s group, led by Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Khaman Maluach, all became lottery picks after guiding the team to an ACC regular-season and conference tournament title, culminating in a Final Four appearance where they fell to Houston. He also has a twin brother, Cayden Boozer, who has contributed 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Beyond the Boozer twins, Duke returns key players Isaiah Evans, Caleb Foster, Maliq Brown, and Patrick Ngongba, all of whom will play pivotal roles. Freshmen Dame Sarr and Nikolas Khamenia have already carved out early-season roles, giving the Blue Devils a balanced mix of veteran leadership and talented newcomers.
