Midlands vehicle charging solutions firm delivers significant charging upgrade for global car manufacturer

The project was delivered in a live production environment and prepared the manufacturing site for the production of the next wave of electric models. adi VCS acted as principal contractor on the project, overseeing design, installation, testing and commissioning to a tight programme. As principal contractor and specialist installer, adi VCS coordinated multiple contractors and delivered the full electrical works package, from HV/LV equipment and cabling to charger installation, system testing and commissioning. The scope included a new 2.5MVA substation, upgrades to the high- and low-voltage network, 58 x 22kW AC charge points, 5 x 400kW DC chargers and a site-wide load-management system. The works were sequenced to avoid disruption to a busy facility with frequent vehicle movements, including careful planning for trenching and heavy equipment offloads. The load-management platform was set to balance demand and protect capacity as the site scales up EV activity. “This delivery shows that large infrastructure upgrades can be done safely and with minimal disruption to production,” said Robert Byrne, Operations Director at adi Vehicle Charging Solutions. “By combining network upgrades with smart load management, the site now has reliable capacity for high-power DC charging and room to grow. “Our principal contractor role helped us schedule all activity and ensure all critical activities were delivered on time. Trenching, lifts and other intrusive works were delivered around the client’s operations so the facility could keep manufacturing. “The result is practical, future-ready charging that supports the client’s EV plans.” adi Vehicle Charging Solutions continues to help build the infrastructure that is currently needed for electric vehicles across the UK, with projects performed across sustainable power systems using renewable energy, battery storage and micro grid operability.
