Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Says This On Return-To-Office Push And Layoffs

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has finally put his two cents on Microsoft’s layoffs and return-to-office push. Nadella said that the company ‘needs to do better’ in order to regain the trust of the workforce. This statement came after one of the employees asked Nadella about the lack of empathy in the organization. Replying to which, he said, ‘I deeply appreciate that, the question and sentiment behind it.’ CNBC reports that he further said, ‘I the it as feedback for me and everyone else in the leadership team, because at the end of the day, I think we can do better, and we will do better.’ Also Read: Microsoft Urges Staff To Work From Office 3 Days A Week After Laying Off 15,000 People Apart from that, CNBC also suggested that HR chief Amy Coleman acknowledged mixed reactions to the return-to-office mandate in the session. Some of the employees from Microsoft fear a loss of autonomy. However, the data shows that staff around Seattle are already attending the office 2.4 days a week on average. Satya Nadella also said that the remote work setup makes mentorship harder for the interns and new employees. His statement read, ‘Management is mostly all remote, but interns are all, you know, in one location. And so those are things that just will break a social contact.’ That’s Not It Despite agreeing to what could have been done differently, Satya Nadella didn’t keep the staff in any delusion. Instead, he warned them, saying, ‘Some of the biggest businesses we built may not be as relevant going forward. Some of the margins that we love today may not be there tomorrow, and that means you have to be way ahead of all those going away, right? We have some very, very hard work ahead of us, and that process of renewal is essentially what we have to do.’ What we can deduce from it is that Microsoft will be taking harsh decisions like layoffs and stricter work policies in the future as well.
