GENESEE TWP, MI – An ice cream adventure awaits locals at the Kearsley Kone, where a 6.5-pound sundae challenges daring dessert lovers.
The “Extreme Sundae Challenge” packs a Belgian waffle at the bottom, 13 scoops of ice cream in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, four different candies — Snickers, M&M’s, Kit Kat, and Reese’s — three sauces, whipped cream, cookies, peanut butter wafers, and a cherry on top, crowned with an ice cream cone.
The rules are simple: finish the sundae in under 30 minutes to claim victory.
JAWsome Eats, a Michigan YouTuber, conquered the massive dessert in 29 minutes and 44 seconds, just beating the clock.
Contestants who succeed earn a free t-shirt and their name and photo go up on the shop’s board for all to see.
“It’s a fun thing for the community to have,” owner Matt Stimac said. “Big YouTube eaters have contacted me about it, and it’s a way to bring something unique to the area.”
The sundae costs $25, and Stimac said the summer season has been “great” with one week left, so purchase it while you can.
Located at 5488 Richfield Road in Genesee Township, the Kearsley Kone has built a reputation for thinking outside the box.
Last year, Stimac introduced the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos ice cream cone, a spicy-sweet treat incorporated into twists and sundaes.
“It’s something I came up with, my son really likes the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. One day I decided let’s try it with ice cream and it comes out perfect,” Stimac said.
The combination delivers a cereal-like crunch with the coldness of the ice cream and quickly became a customer favorite.
Stimac said the Extreme Sundae Challenge is inspired by his childhood memories of Farrell’s Ice Cream on Clio Road in the 1970s and ’80s.
“When you had a birthday, you got a big sundae. I want to do something like that for my ice cream shop. I always bring cool, new things to the area,” he said.
Kearsley Kone rotates 36 hand-dipped flavors, soft serve, and Dole Whip, changing offerings every other week to keep the community coming back for more.
The business is open from 2:30-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1-9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
