LANSING, MI -- A local lottery club is celebrating an “unbelievable” win that resulted in the group recently claiming a $2 million Powerball prize. “The club purchased several Powerball tickets because the jackpot was over $1 billion,” said the club’s representative and spokesperson, Sheldon Larky. “They were checking their tickets after the drawing and didn’t believe it when they realized one was a $2 million winner! They scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app to double check it and make sure it was real. “The club members said winning a $2 million prize is comforting and unbelievable.” The FDL lottery club matched all five white numbers drawn -- 03-16-29-61-69 -- in the Sept. 3 drawing to win a $1 million prize. The group also elected to play the Power Play option which multiplies any non-jackpot win up to $2 million. For that drawing, the multiplier was 2X, meaning the group won $2 million total. The members of the group did not disclose how they plan to spend the money. “Congratulations to the FDL lottery club that won a $2 million prize during the huge Powerball jackpot run last month,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Jackpot runs are not only fun and exciting for players, but they also drive sales which helps the Lottery increase its contribution to the School Aid Fund.” For the latest on Michigan Lottery, check out the official Michigan Lottery site, which also offers more information on instant tickets, raffles and other lottery games. The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel. And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
