Several New York Jets players have been mentioned in rumors ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline. On Friday, October 31, a new name emerged in discussions. NFL Insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated revealed that defensive lineman Micheal Clemons is “available.” Clemons’ sudden availability on the trade block led to a lot of jokes on social media. “If someone trades anything for him, even a ham sandwich, I’ll lose all faith in the league,” NFL analyst Jon Ledyard responded on X previously Twitter. Best Social Media Reactions to Clemons Trade Rumors “[Darren] Mougey is executive of the year if he gets any team to bite on Clemons,” a fan posted. “Who would want to trade for him though 😭,” a fan openly asked. A fan shared a similarly realistic statement, “I am also open to dating Sydney Sweeney, FYI.” Another fan bluntly responded, “Would literally give him away for anything. An empty water bottle would be more than enough.” “I would give a team a second round pick to take him from our hands,” a fan offered. Clemons’ Time With the Jets Seems to Be Running Out The former Texas A&M product entered the league as the No. 117 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft. During his time in the NFL, Clemons has appeared in 57 games and has made 21 starts. Clemons, 28, has totaled 108 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and 11 tackles for loss. He is in the last year of his $4.4 million rookie contract. Clemons is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026. A Clemons-Jets Trade Doesn’t Make Sense for a Lot of Reasons Clemons hasn’t been good this season. Through the first eight games of the year, Clemons has zero sacks, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss. Clemons is available on the trade block? With only months left on his contract? Who in their right mind would give up anything of value for Clemons? He, on his own, doesn’t hold much value to any of the other 31 NFL teams. However, to the Jets, he has been a vital cog in the machine. The Jets’ two starting defensive ends, Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson, have had issues this season. McDonald is an incomplete player who has proven to be a liability in run defense. That means he can’t be on the field all the time. Johnson hurt his calf in Week 2 and was on the shelf for three games. With him unavailable, the Jets had to turn to Clemons to fill the void. This season, the 6-foot-5, 263-pound defensive lineman has played in 55% of the defensive snaps. That is a new career high for Clemons at the NFL level. While he hasn’t necessarily been great with those reps, Clemons has been a warm body at defensive end. The Jets need more defensive ends, not fewer of them. While a lot of people got their social media jokes off at Clemons’ expense, he is the best they have as a third depth piece. That more so speaks to the Jets’ inability to properly add talent to the room than a compliment for Clemons, but halfway through the season, it’s unlikely he is going anywhere — at least for 2025.
