Michael Jordan's Eyes

Michael Jordan is widely considered the greatest NBA player of all time. However, his NBC debut recently has sparked concerns among fans over his health. Jordan is a six-time NBA champion, a six-time Finals MVP, and a five-time MVP, to name just a few of his accolades, so he certainly has the accomplishments to back up the 'greatest of all time' claim. With that in mind, there was plenty of interest from NBA fans on Tuesday when he made his debut on NBC's NBA broadcast. The 10-time scoring champion spoke with Mike Tirico in a one-on-one interview. However, many fans couldn't help but notice the colour of his eyes during the interview. Michael Jordan's Eyes Jordan's health has been a hot topic ever since 'The Last Dance' documentary in 2020, which was released on Netflix, when fans first took notice of his yellow eyes. It raised questions about how he is doing in his personal life, with many saying it is a sign of a liver issue or other illness. Since his appearance on TV last night, a 2020 tweet from Dr. Glaucomflecken has resurfaced, where he gave a detailed explanation as to why Jordan's eyes are so yellow. Dr. Glaucomflecken, also known as William E. Flanary, is an American comedian, podcaster, and ophthalmologist; a doctor who specialises in eye and vision care. He wrote: "Like a thousand people have asked me about Jordan's eyes. He is not jaundiced. He has racial melanosis of the conjunctiva. Benign, flat patches of pigment around the edge of the cornea. This is extremely common in darkly pigmented individuals, and more prominent with age." Several medical professionals have also been interviewed by outlets like Sports Illustrated and VICE, and have explained that the discolouration of his eyes could come from several causes. Some say it could be pinguecula, which is a build-up of fat or calcium on the surface of the eye, but most point to Dr. Glaucomfleken's melanosis diagnosis. Jordan has never spoken publicly about his eyes, or any health concerns. His new role marks a pivotal moment for the NBA and the network. NBC helped define the NBA's presence on TV in the 1990s, and now one of the most popular players of that period has returned as a commentator. A feature titled: 'MJ: Insights into Excellence' was teased by the network to be aired on the 28th of October, where topics such as player load management on today's stars will be discussed.
