Michael Fassbender has been confirmed to appear in Netflix's new drama series focusing on the Kennedy family. As reported by Variety, Netflix has greenlit the series titled Kennedy based on the book by Fredrik Logevall titled JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956. The official logline reads: "'Kennedy' reveals the intimate lives, loves, rivalries and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern history, and helped create the world we live in today. Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe (Fassbender) and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden boy older brother." Fassbender will star as Joseph Kennedy Sr. and the streaming service has greenlit an eight-episode first season. It has been two years since the series was last reported when Netflix claimed it would be an American version of The Crown. Thomas Vinterberg (Far from the Madding Crowd) is set to direct alongside Sam Shaw as showrunner and executive producer. Shaw has spoken about the upcoming drama, stating, "Fredrik Logevall’s stunning, nuanced biography pulls a veil on the human strivings and burdens behind the myth, revealing as much about our present moment, how we got here and where we’re going, as about the Kennedys themselves." There have been many adaptations and portrayals of the Kennedys due to their significant mark in U.S. business, politics, and entertainment. Their best known moment was, of course, John F. Kennedy's presidency and, ultimately, his assassination. The family's influence continued decades after JFK's death as members continued serving in the federal office. This will mark Michael Fassbender's second major role in a TV series following his time in Paramount+ series The Agency, which is planning its second season. He is mainly known for his movie roles, including Inglourious Basterds, the X-Men franchise, and 12 Years a Slave.
