April 4, 1950 – October 21, 2025 Michael Aaron Dougan passed away peacefully in Campbell River on October 21, 2025, surrounded by the people he loved. Mike was born in Vancouver on April 4, 1950, and was raised in Duncan. As school was not his favorite activity, at age 13 he went to work full time in the family business, Dougan Logging. He worked in the industry for many years at various locations throughout BC, gathering an amazing collection of friends and tales of adventure. One of his trademarks was creating nicknames for his co-workers, friends and family, and those names have remained with them over the years. It seemed that Mike knew pretty much everybody! Anywhere he went throughout his lifetime, he would run into at least one friend (or more), and would stop for an extended BS session. Mike was thrilled when it was time to retire, and he and Sue spent several winters enjoying the sun in Arizona. They camped as often as possible during the beautiful summers on Vancouver Island. Mike loved taking his motorcycle for a ride up and down the Island. He rarely turned down a Happy Hour, and he and Sue enjoyed many, many visits with friends and family. Mike was a fiercely proud father and grandfather. His weekly Sunday chats with his girls were a highlight for him, and he beamed with pride when he spoke of his ever growing number of grandkids and great-grandkids. A famed story teller, he could weave a story like no other. He loved to laugh, and wasn’t afraid to laugh at himself! If you were fortunate enough to hear one of his “classics”, you will be smiling as you read this, remembering him telling the tale and hearing his booming laughter. When Mike became ill, he battled and never gave up the fight. He kept smiling and hoped for the best. He continued to live his life with love and laughter until the end. The family is grateful for all of the doctors and nurses who treated Mike over the past several years. Special thanks to the wonderful crew at the Campbell River Cancer Clinic for their amazing care and compassion. Thank you so much to all of the friends and family who surrounded Mike with love and support during his difficult journey. Mike is survived by his beloved wife Sue, his children René Dougan, Clay Dougan (Tiffany), Christy Conrad (Will), Allison Hyatt (Andrew) and Coleen Cust (Logan), his stepchildren Cara Mann, Jodi Mann and Kyle Mann, 18 grandchildren, and soon to be 5 great-grandchildren; as well as all of his extended family, and many friends. His passing is a tremendous loss for all who knew him. At Mike’s request, there will be no service or Celebration of Life. He celebrated life every day. The next time you are enjoying some time with friends or family, raise a glass to Mike, tell a joke or a story, and share your memories of this remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Mike, to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
