We should stop talking about the Super Bowl in Western New York, at least until the Buffalo Bills’ offense stops the Jekyll and Hyde act we had not seen since their consecutive losses to New England and Atlanta before the bye. The bad version turned up in a 30-13 loss to Miami on Sunday. The 30-13 defeat – yes, that was really the final score – was arguably the worst of any under coach Sean McDermott, especially in the eight years since quarterback Josh Allen came into the league. That it came to a division rival in Miami, which entered the game with a 2-7 record, makes things even worse. Coupled with New England's victory over Tampa Bay, the Bills are now 1½ games behind the Patriots in the AFC East race. Defensive end Landon Jackson’s right knee injury against the Dolphins left the Buffalo Bills with just Javon Solomon, Greg Rousseau and Joey Bosa active at the edge. The Bills are also just one week removed from having lost defensive end Michael Hoecht. Top cornerbacks Christian Benford and Taron Johnson also sat out Sunday with groin injuries. Entering Sunday, Buffalo Bills tight end Jackson Hawes had played 42% of the offensive snaps because he's an exceptional blocker. He and fullback Reggie Gilliam were key cogs in the game plan that offensive coordinator Joe Brady used to spring James Cook for 216 rushing yards in a 40-9 win at Carolina. Hawes may also be on the field for more passing situations now that Buffalo could be without tight end Dalton Kincaid, who suffered a hamstring injury Sunday.
